DreamWorks Land: A Cheap Marketing Gimmick
Universal has completely come far from the many screen-based rides and simulators that plagued its parks, really embracing attraction design that was much more ambitious from 2019 onward, starting with Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. We've since seen great additions like the Velocicoaster, other various Jurassic World attractions, Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash and Super Nintendo World among other additions. Now with Epic Universe on the way, Universal is teasing one of the best theme parks ever built. Yet among such a strong showing, how did we get Villain-Con: Minion Blast in 2023 and now DreamWorks Land in the Florida studio park? They're both cheap, quickly thrown ...

First, let me state that if you came here to express prejudiced comments about Tiana's Bayou Adventure or Splash Mountain, I'll essentially be banning you from the channel because I really have no tolerance for that. The Epcot Overhaul: An Irresponsible Waste of Money
Просмотров 176 тыс.День назад
Epcot has been in a pretty bad state for a long time, aging with a post-modern aesthetic that was very particular to the 90s and attractions that feel old and poorly maintained. In 2017, an Epcot overhaul was announced by Disney and over the next few years, ideas were presented on how the park could be revitalized until construction walls finally went up in 2019. However, this project has been ...
How Disney Destroyed Education and Culture
Просмотров 147 тыс.21 день назад
Disney today is plagued by an intellectual property mandate, one that does not trust park guests to engage with the parks in a meaningful way unless there's a character or franchise attached. While there's nothing inherently wrong with the use of IP in the parks, Disney has had such a richer history of attraction design that drew meaningfully from culture and was often educational. Today, we re...
Discovery Cove - The World's Most Expensive Theme Park?

Discovery Cove is one of the most unique theme parks out there, working as an all-inclusive experience combining a water park and a zoo. Ferrari Theme Parks Are So Strange

LEGOLAND Florida is a Bad Value

In the late 90s, I went to one of Florida's oldest tourist attractions, Cypress Gardens, which at the time was just the botanical gardens. However, it was briefly converted into an amusement park in the mid-2000s and was bought by Merlin Entertainments, transforming the park into LEGOLAND Florida and re-opening in 2011. Since that point, I've been curious to go and experience the park but haven...
Why Do People... Hate the Magic Kingdom?

I’m kinda sad that epic universe won’t really be something for me because there’s just not enough rides I can ride (and I don’t like Harry Potter) since I’m unable to ride more thrilling rides with drops. I plan to go once when crowds die down but I do expect it to be one and done for me. Im glad others can be excited though! I agree dreamworks land is not as good. I do hope they can give it love as epic sees profits!

I think Disney did this ride a major disservice by having inconsistent theming, art/art styles, mediums, and the use of fonts/typography not existent during any of the periods represented. It is an unfortunate departure from the higher standards of theming we could expect from the company in the past. Not sure if it was time or budget or both, but Disney should have given WDI the time to no cut so many obvious corners. Of course at 32 years newer it is going to be the better ride, but for their respective opening dates, I think splash still has the edge in my book. Comparing May 2021 Splash to June 2024 TBA is intellectually dishonest. If any of the leaked stories were true (the song going along with the second one) I think that would have been a much better than the story in the ride. My conclusion. It feels ridiculously rushed and needed another 30% budget, it needed another year or two in preproduction and another 6-12 months of downtime. It likely could have benefited from more static set design instead of so many dark areas, especially the ones that had flat walls with ghillie blankets draped across them. They left the door open to easy criticism when they didn't need to, or maybe they knew they would get it regardless so they decided to accept it as a cost-cutting measure.

I went to Legoland Florida back in 2015 or so. After 2 hours, the sunny weather turned into a light drizzle as we took a look at the microbuilds segment (which didn't have any overhead shelter at the time) The rain soon got much worse, which forced us to take shelter in a crowded gift shop. At that time, we'd already ate our packed lunches and I didn't go on any rides since they were for kids younger than me. Decidedly done with our visit. We quickly realized we didn't have any way to make it to our car without being drenched. Thankfully, the gift shop had 2 child-sized rain ponchos that feebily did their best to shield us. Looking back, I kinda regret begging my dad for the park's annual pass, cuz we never went back. To this day we sarcastically joke at how mediocre that day was. It was what hooked me on this video. Thought I'd share a memory. The park looks so different now that I thought I must have been mistaken.

The old adage The customer is always right No longer applies. Disney seems to have done everything they can to drive people away. Less for more. I'm not a smart man but that's usually a deal breaker in my book. Disney is looking at this backwards. In their eyes, the customer is lucky to have them, when without the parks, Disney is busted because they've bought up so many media companies that cost them profit every quarter. They'll soon realize, without customers, even their most profitable sector, it's just another place to lose money. Sad ending. I consider them the first and premiere theme park chain but there comes a point when the hassle and the cost, just isn't worth the effort anymore. Once again Not a wise man but Taking customers for granted, is a mistake. Nickel and diming them as part of the bargain, is a fatal mistake.

Disney turning the entire Marvel brand into something that can coincide with the MCU was one of the worst marketing moves ever. The MCU has the blandest aesthetic imaginable with an unnecessary focus on realism and tech. The only saving graces are Guardians of the Galaxy, whom James Gunn isn’t even apart of, and Doctor Strange who doesn’t even have a show anymore. What a waste of a land.

Universal has cut of it's nose in spite of it's face. What I mean is, they got rid of live rides which were all awesome, namely, Kongfrontation, Jaws, Earthquake, Back To The Future and even the awesome Ghostbusters show. For what? Nothing but a bunch of screen junk. I do like the virtual screen rides, because they are different and done rather well, in my opinion. But virtual screen rides will never replace a cool live ride. Even slow, dark rides are better than virtual stuff. But Universal has dropped the ball badly in this department. I do like going to Universal and islands even today, but they are not the parks they used to be when first opened. At least Universal isn't. I do like the Happy Potter rides but I could care less about the theming and subject matter. But at least the rides are real rides and move through a designated course. I would prefer the subject matter something entirely different than wizard/sorcery stuff. Epic Universe will definitely stand alone as Orlando's best theme park when it is fully opened. Disney has a lot of problems and issues that need to be completely overhauled and reimagined. I have a special place in my heart for Disney though. Growing up in the 60s watching The Wonderful World Of Color and then Wonderful World Of Disney on tv on Sunday nights, locked in a special fondness in my heart for Disney. Even though they did a lot of wrong with Epcot and even Splash Mountain, I will continue to go to Disney and hope to see it return to it's former glory someday. The Dreamworks land could have been done better, I agree with you. I personally loved the Curious George water area. We had a blast in it. Fievel's Playland was ok, but these kids of today don't even know who Fievel is, and probably don't know who Woody Woodpecker is either. But even so, the land could have stayed as it was. Parents can expose their kids to these classic characters. All in all, Universal needs to revamp most of their rides and get ride of several, including Fast and Furious. How ridiculous can any one ride be?

How come it takes Disney YEARS to build this stuff - it’s like a government remodeling an airport. Do they have so much red tape and bureaucracy that this is what they end up building? Universal is building entire parks and adding attractions at breakneck speed. Don’t get me wrong, I still feel like Disney has higher standards in their parks - but come on, there is barely any innovation and they spend an ABSURD amount of money moving things around.

Poseidon, me - always the exact same page. As far as that park with the splash pad.... The city has just put in a playground at the end of block which is a hundred times better. Way more fun. Way more options. Way better for kids. What more edutainment. Just better in every way. Un themed with i.p throw up though. I think it likely comes down to liability. I question why theme parks even put them in anymore. It seems to always go sideways in one way or another. That seems like a great thing to put into your hotels nearby where they would have a limited use and be less likely to result in an avoidable lawsuit. Not the parks. It does boggle my mind when companies do not learn from their former mistakes or the mistakes of their competitors. Seems to happen to a foolish degree.

See that's the ticket. The Jurassic kind of Tom Sawyer experience- that's something you could not have at a city park for liability reasons. A different experience you are hard pressed to get outside of a park.

After Epic Universe is up and running I can see Univeral finally giving Studios the TLC it needs. You throw in the one / two combo of an aging "Men in Black" with the uncertain future of "The Simpson's Land" and it's not hard to understand where the money should be going. That end of the park. Because there aren't replacement parts for MiB and if Universe is the Disney killer it's advertised to be, Universal may not even want The Simpsons anymore. Even if Disney comes in with a reasonable proposition, which is highly doubtful.

Ball pits and attractions like that have lost favor since COVID. Not only do you have to replace balls but some places had to clean them in order to show they were taking steps to stop the spread of diseases. If you can imagine how many hands, feet, and mouths those balls go through in a day you can see how a lot of the public sees these attractions as disease factories and not just a place to let kids burn off energy while Mom & Dad sit down. So it makes sense that Universal is following the current trend of phasing out these attractions.

10:00 The slide at Fivel was an absolute nightmare. The heavy rafts left me with long lasting wrist pain I still deal with several years later. Kids would pee in them constantly. Parents would send down unsupervised children as young as 3 years old, YES 3 YEARS OLD, down a 3 story tall raft ride and then throw a hissy fit when their kids got stuck in the ride without a parent to be there with them 😩 Universal tried to curb this by implementing taller height restrictions but it barely helped. In the winter, the top of the slide was actual hell on earth, especially at night. Standing next to water in 40 degree weather on an uninsulated platform just so 3 Canadian children can slide down it was awful. Not to mention that you're only allowed to wear winter hats under a certain temperature threshold. So if it was just slightly above, congrats, you get to freeze to death until the next poor employee took your place in rotation. RIP to anyone that had to man the 45 minute lunch block up there... When they re-themed it I let out a sigh of peace finding out that the spawn of hell was removed. NO ONE liked working that thing and people would show up early just to claim the rotations that didn't include it if available, or whichever of the two slots (top/bottom) they found least grueling... Trust me. It's a good thing that the water slide is gone 🤧 Edit to add: Ballfactory was a sensory nightmare for employees and a cesspool of disease for children. Balls rolling all over the floor getting put into the mouth of toddlers all day long. Imagine how much spit and gunk was licked by them 😂 at the end of the night all of the balls had to be wrangled, counted one by one, and put away to be spit on the next day. Oh, did I mention they only get cleaned ever 2 weeks? 🤧🤢

I am in the major minority when saying I never liked Splash Mtn. It was on the creepy side for me. I was so excited for Tiana's retheme. I'm really confused as to why they didn't stick closer to the movie. As a fan of Disney princesses, I would have loved to see Tiana in her ballgown. The story they came up with for this ride is rough. Can't say I love it. However - it looks like a fun experience and I am glad for the changes. I'll never grasp why they didn't use the movie plot but as I think Molly from Mammoth Club pointed out: Walt Disney said "To all that come to this happy place, welcome." But many folks may not have felt welcome on Splash so for that reason alone, Tiana gets my vote and I look forward to riding it.

I have not ridden Tianna yet and am unlikely to do so soon - from Europe there is no pressing reason to go back to Orlando over the next years.
